Lance Armstrong is a world famous _1_. He is a cyclist who has won the renowned Tour de France competition seven times. He achieved this despite having battled cancer in the past. Unfortunately, he has been in the news a lot lately for all the wrong _2_.
Last August, the United States Anti-Doping Agency charged him with 'doping', the use of illegal drugs to _3_ athletic performance. The agency has stripped him of his Tour de France victories and has given him a lifetime _4_ from cycling. It is still not clear to the public whether these allegations are true. Although former team-mates are now giving evidence that Armstrong frequently took these drugs, 24 unannounced drug tests have shown absolutely no illegal substances to be found.
Armstrong himself is getting tired of these allegations and has said he will not fight them anymore. On August 23rd he made a _5_ saying 'There comes a point in every man'' life when he has to say, 'Enough is enough.' For me, that time is now. I have been dealing with claims that I cheated and had an unfair _6_ in winning my seven Tours since 1999. Over the past three years, I have been subjected to a two-year federal criminal investigation followed by Travis Tygart's unconstitutional witch hunt. The toll this has taken on my family, and my work for our foundation and on me leads me to where I am today – finished with this nonsense".
Whether the stories are true or not, Armstrong has done excellent work by forming the 'Lance Armstrong Foundation' which raises _7_ and aims to assist cancer sufferers. Let us hope that this important charity is not unfairly affected.
