Staying with a homestay provider is an exciting and rewarding way for students to experience British culture. Homestays provide valuable insight into everyday life in the UK, helping students improve their communication skills and pick up useful phrases in real-world situations. Homestays are arranged by EC and through our accommodation partner, Hosts International, which is registered with the British Council.
Housing
Homestays offer mixed-gender accommodation, with access to shared spaces such as the lounge, kitchen, and dining room. Bathrooms are typically shared with the host family.
Room Options
You can choose between single or twin rooms, with rooms furnished with essentials like a bed, desk or table, chest of drawers or wardrobe, a mirror, and a wastepaper bin. Some rooms may also include a TV for added comfort.
Laundry
Bed linen and towels are provided by the homestay provider, and one laundry wash per week is included. Additional laundry services may be offered at the host’s discretion.
Internet and Phone Access
Internet access is available to all students. Telephone access is limited to incoming calls only.
A variety of food is provided. Homestay providers may adjust the type of food offered when taking into consideration religious beliefs. It is important to mention this at the time of your booking. Vegetarians or people with food allergies should specify their eating options upon booking so this can be shared with their host prior to arrival.
Breakfast
Breakfast varies from one homestay to another. It is usually self-service and includes bread, coffee and cereal. Hosts are encouraged to offer students whatever is typical for their homes.
Dinner
Students will eat whatever the hosts eat, and we encourage them to set the table or clear up after dinner. Dinners are usually quite early in Britain, but hosts will inform the student of the time when they eat. It is important that the student informs the host beforehand should they be late or not having dinner.
Journey to school
Our homestays are typically 30 minutes to 60 minutes from the EC Bristol school. Students use public transport (bus) or walk to school. Bristol’s public transport is managed by First bus. A weekly bus pass costs approximately £20 per week’. Bus Passes can be purchased at EC Bristol. Times are approximate.

If you have booked an EC airport transfer, on arrival at Manchester Airport please turn on your phone and your driver will be ready to contact you either by phone or message. Your driver will direct you to the place to meet outside the arrivals lounge. Should you have any delays or cancellations on your journey, our driver will be monitoring your flight to ensure they are ready to greet you at the correct time.

Students cancelling fewer than 14 days before arrival will be charged a two-week accommodation fee at the standard accommodation rate and accommodation placement fees.
Students leaving their accommodation must give notice in writing 4 weeks prior to termination. After deducting the price of accommodation used, including the required notice period, charged at standard accommodation rates, students will be refunded the remaining accommodation costs. If the 4-week notice period is not provided, a cancellation fee equal to 4 weeks of the accommodation cost will apply.
