Staying with a homestay provider in Manchester is both exciting and rewarding. It offers you the best insight into British culture and daily life, helping you to communicate better and faster by picking up commonly used words and phrases in real-life situations. Homestays are arranged by EC and our British Council-registered partner, Hosts International.

Housing

Homestays in Manchester offer mixed-gender accommodation with access to shared spaces such as the lounge, kitchen, and dining room. Bathrooms are typically shared with the household.

Room Options

You can choose between single or twin rooms. All rooms come fully furnished with a bed, desk or table, storage space (either a chest of drawers or a wardrobe), a mirror, and a wastepaper bin. Some rooms may include a TV.

Laundry

Bed linen and towels as part of the accommodation. One free laundry wash per week is provided, with additional washing services available at the host’s discretion.

WiFi

Internet access is included, and phone usage is restricted to incoming calls only.

Meal Description

A variety of food is provided. Homestay providers may adjust the type of food offered when taking into consideration religious beliefs. It is important to mention this at the time of your booking. Vegetarians, or people with food allergies should specify their eating options upon booking so this can be shared with their host prior to arrival.

Breakfast

Breakfast varies from one homestay to another. It is usually self-service and includes bread, coffee and cereal. Hosts are encouraged to offer students whatever is typical for their home. Students will eat whatever the hosts eat, and we encourage them to set the table or clear up after dinner.

Dinner

Dinners are usually quite early in Britain, but hosts will inform the student of the time when they eat. It is important that the student informs the host beforehand should they be late or are not having dinner.

Our homestays are typically 30 minutes to 60 minutes from school. Students use public transport or walk to school. Times are approximate.

Airport Pickup

If you have booked an EC airport transfer, on arrival at Manchester Airport please turn on your phone and your driver will be ready to contact you either by phone or message. Your driver will direct you to the place to meet outside the arrivals lounge. Should you have any delays or cancellations on your journey, our driver will be monitoring your flight to ensure they are ready to greet you at the correct time.

Some homes may have pets. Should students be allergic or prefer not to live with a pet they should indicate this on their preferences when booking.

Bed linen is provided

Students may be given a house key.

Smoking is not permitted in any of the homestays.

Students arriving in EC accommodation between 22.00 – 08.00 may be asked to book alternative accommodation for their first night. This is to ensure student’s safety on arrival.

Students are required to follow EC Student Code of Conduct, failure to do so can result in termination of the accommodation.

Cancellations

Cancellation prior to arrival

Students cancelling fewer than 14 days before arrival will be charged a two-week accommodation fee at the standard accommodation rate and accommodation placement fees.

Cancellation after arrival

Students leaving their accommodation must give notice in writing 4 weeks prior to termination. After deducting the price of accommodation used, including the required notice period, charged at standard accommodation rates, students will be refunded the remaining accommodation costs. If the 4-week notice period is not provided, a cancellation fee equal to 4 weeks of the accommodation cost will apply.
