The Columbus Residence is in the heart of historic Jackson Square in downtown San Francisco, an area known for its buildings that date back to the city’s earliest years and the 1849 California Gold Rush.  

Centrally located at the intersection of Chinatown, North Beach, Fisherman’s Wharf and the Financial District, this is one of the most popular neighbourhoods in the city, filled with amazing restaurants, landmark sites and a beautiful park.

It’s also a shopping mecca: Here, you’ll discover everything from luxury brands to indie boutiques and vintage finds. Take home a new treasure!

Your Accommodation

Located just steps from the EC San Francisco school, The Columbus is a newly renovated historic residence designed for international students and others seeking an economical longer stay in San Francisco

Note: the Columbus has a 4-week minimum booking.

Each room includes a single or loft bed, a wardrobe, a study desk and chair, a set of drawers and a mini fridge, plus updated shared bathrooms. There is a microwave on each floor. Additional modern updates include new communal kitchen and dining room spaces, as well as a TV lounge for socializing and a large laundry room.

Arrival procedures

A staff member from the Columbus will email you with your self-check-in procedures.

Airport pickup

Please call the driver at +1 415-350-9944 to meet him curbside outside at the airport after you arrive. 

(You can use WhatsApp or use the white courtesy phones in the airport terminal). 

If your flight is missed, delayed, or cancelled, or if there is any other problem, you should notify EC by calling +1 424-428-8808 (from the information desk or a mobile phone) to rearrange your transfer time and avoid additional cost.

Arrival and Departure

Arrival day: Saturday ( Sunday arrival is possible on request)
Check-in: You can check in at 3pm, but if the room is ready early, you will be allowed  to check in earlier. If the room isn’t ready and you come before 3pm, your luggage can be kept at the residence and you can wait in the lounge room.

Late Check-in is allowed.

Check-out: 11:00 am.

House Rules

  • Students must be 18 + to choose this residence. 
  • Mixed Gender: Male and female students share common areas and facilities, but bedrooms are single gender. 
  • No deposit required. 
  • Overnight guest allowed 2 days max only for students staying in a private room and longer than one month 
  • Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the residence. . 

While we promote and support diversity, we cannot guarantee a language mix. However, we always encourage students to use English to communicate and be respectful and inclusive of others. 

Resident belongings:  
Once your tenancy has ended, The Columbus is not liable for items left behind by residents. You must take all your belongings with you when you move out. We are unable to forward any left items. 

EC provides a clean-living space for all students and expects a basic level of respect from all students. For example, if something is dropped, pick it up; do not leave clothes and belongings on the floor; place rubbish and leftovers in a garbage bag 

Students are required to follow the EC Student Code of Conduct; failure to do so can result in termination of the accommodation.  

Cancellations

Cancellation prior to arrival

Students cancelling or postponing their accommodation 14 days or less before their accommodation dates will be charged a two-week accommodation fee at the rate quoted in the price list for the accommodation booked and the accommodation placement fee. 

Cancellation after arrival

Students leaving their accommodation must give notice in writing four weeks before termination. If the 4-week notice period is not provided, a cancellation fee equal to 4 weeks of accommodation costs will apply.  After deducting the accommodation price used at the rate quoted in the price list, including the required notice period charged at the same rate, students will be refunded the remaining accommodation costs.

At EC, can I book my student accommodation in San Francisco with friends? 

Yes, if you’re studying at EC San Francisco with a friend, you may be able to share a room in select residences or homestays. Contact us to learn more.

If I choose a shared-bedroom for my student accommodation in San Francisco, who will I be sharing with?

You will be sharing your room with another EC student of the same gender. When students are sharing rooms, we try our best to place students together from different countries or languages, although this is not always guaranteed.

For my homestay student accommodation in San Francisco, how do you assign the host family? 

This is based on availability and any special requirements you might have. Please make sure that all your requests are expressed at the time of the booking.
