Your Accommodation

The Grey Nuns Residence is a former convent, now a student residence at Concordia University. It is a beautiful heritage building in the heart of downtown Montreal. The Grey Nuns offers a unique combination of character, great location and value for money.

All of the rooms are clean, simple and secure just steps away from classrooms, restaurants, shops, attractions and the public transportation network.

Whenever possible students are allocated to wings and floors that are exclusive to EC Montreal so they aren’t sharing with unknown guests.

The Grey Nuns has a large garden with a pond, picnic benches and a volleyball terrain offering a calm oasis for eating, exercise or just hanging out away from the hustle and bustle of town.

Room Options

Single or Double room occupancy. Double room is only available to students travelling together. The double room option cannot be booked by one person.

Room Furnishings

Single bed, desk, wash basin, wardrobe and mini-fridge.

Bed linens and fans are included for short term stays between 1 and 4 weeks, but not for 5 weeks +

Common Areas

Shared hall bath.
Shared kitchenette with microwaves, toaster and tea kettle.
Lounge.
Reception desk is open from 8AM until 11PM.
Access to garden with picnic area and pond.

Cleaning

The residence does not offer cleaning services, however, cleaning products and equipment are available to students upon request.

Arrival procedures

Please send flight details or an estimated arrival time at the time of booking accommodation or as soon as possible once known. On arrival, a residence staff member will be waiting at the reception desk to give you the keys and show you to your room. On departure, please leave your room tidy and return your keys at reception in the lobby.

Walk 3 to 5 minutes.
Walk 1 minute down Guy Street to Ste-Catherine Street. Turn left, walk for 2 minutes and arrive at EC Montreal’s main campus.

House Rules

  • Students must be 18 + to choose this residence
  • Mixed Gender: Male and female students share common areas and facilities, but bedrooms are single gender.
  • Smoking is not permitted anywhere in the residence.
  • Students arriving in EC accommodation between 22.00 – 08.00 may be asked to book alternative accommodation for their first night. This is to ensure student’s safety on arrival.
  • While we promote and support diversity, we cannot guarantee language mix. However, we always encourage students to use English to communicate, be respectful and inclusive of others
  • EC provides a clean living space for all students and expects a basic level of respect from all students. For example, if something is dropped, pick it up; do not leave clothes and belongings on the floor; place rubbish and leftovers in a garbage bag
  • Students are required to follow EC Student Code of Conduct, failure to do so can result in termination of the accommodation.

Cancellations

Cancellation prior to arrival

Students leaving their accommodation must give notice in writing 4 weeks prior to termination. After deducting the price of accommodation used, including the required notice period, refunded the remaining accommodation costs.
If the 4 week notice period is not provided a cancellation fee equal to 4 weeks of the accommodation cost will apply. Please note: Certain accommodation options may be subject to special cancellation charges. Should these differ from above, students will be notified at the time of cancellation.

Cancellation after arrival

Students cancelling fewer than 14 days before arrival will be charged a one-week accommodation fee at the standard accommodation rate and accommodation placement fee.

Can I keep staying at my student accommodation in Montreal after my EC English course?

The accommodation is only available for the duration of the course. Accommodation is usually booked from Saturday to Saturday. 

For my homestay student accommodation in Montreal, how do you assign the host family? 

This is based on availability and any special requirements you might have. Please make sure that all your requests are expressed at the time of the booking. 

Which type of student accommodation in Montreal should I choose?  

Choosing a Montreal accommodation type depends on your lifestyle preferences. If you want to practice your English or French with a local family over homecooked meals, you should consider a homestay with local Vancouver hosts. If you want more independence and connection with other students, a shared student apartment may be the perfect choice.
